WEEK 10!!!

WOW the end of the school year.

A big thank you for all your help and support these two terms! You are truly a great group of parents and grandparents.

Your children have been wonderful to teach and I have enjoyed getting to know them as individuals.
They have learnt so much about settling into school life and school routines and forming relationships with each other, and I know that they will continue to blossom and surprise you as they continue their school journey.
I have been impressed with how each of them have developed in self confidence and independence.

Make sure they keep reading in the holidays, revisit their word lists too!

Junior School Picnic Tuesday 16th:

THIS WEEK IS SCHOOL PRODUCTION WEEK!

School Production of Cinderella

Everyone is getting very excited about the Cinderella Show, which will be performed next week. Here are a few details to help everyone ensure they know what is expected/what is happening. A printed copy of this newsletter has been distributed to Years 0-4 classes at the end of today but the notice might not be issued until Monday. Year 5 - 6 students who have been at camp this week should bring home their notice on Monday.

Monday:

The children will have a full school rehearsal at 11am. About 2.30pm we have some grandstands arriving - it would be helpful if a few Dad’s waiting for school pickup could assist us with getting these into the hall.

Tuesday:

We have sound and lighting being installed on Tuesday afternoon. Room 13 students will be in another room during this time but Mrs Russell will take them to wait outside the school hall at the end of the school day.

Wednesday:

We have a dress rehearsal matinee at 1pm. Lunchtime today will start at 11.30am for the main cast and 12 noon for the rest of the school. The school office is selling tickets to this Matinee dress rehearsal – there is no charge for preschoolers to attend this performance and the cost for students/adults is $5.

Wednesday and Thursday evenings:

Tickets for both evening performances are on sale at the school office. There will be no door sales sorry. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for preschoolers or school age students. We have tickets available for the grandstands, which will provide tiered seating at the back of the hall and tickets for chairs that will be on the floor in front of the grandstand. Please sit in the area your ticket is allocated for. The hall doors will open at 6.30pm.
All our students are involved in the Cinderella Show and are expected to attend both evening performances.

At school the students will change into the T-shirt they will wear during the show at school. Girls need to have long hair tied up. At the end of the Wednesday performance students will get changed back into their own top so the T-shirts stay at school. On Thursday evening students may take the T-shirt home.

Most of the students are in the whole school choir. They can wear whatever they like to the show – dress ups are fine or good clothes. Could girls please have their hair tied up. Students need to meet in the following rooms by 6.40pm (Note that the rooms will open at 6.30pm)

Week 7   Term 4

We had our ERO visit last week, and all the children in the class that were approached by the reviewers were able to articulate exactly what they were doing and what they were learning and why.
So well done children!

This Friday for GOLDEN TIME we are making mini pizzas. Mrs MaCashin sent home a request for $3 to cover the cost of this. It is not too late if you wish to order your apron and hat and spatula bring in $3 on Monday and you may make several orders for friends and  family if you wish.
Shanelle will be in on Friday to make the pizzas with the class. YUMMY!!

Again a big THANKS to all our helpful parents and grandparents. Many of you have stepped forward to help with resources, reading, sausage sizzle, sorting papers, helping out at swimming time, tidy up etc..I do appreciate it, I know you are all super busy too so thank you:-)
Thanks Bruce, Maria, Kelly,  Briar, Renee, Shanelle, Ross, Rebecca and also all the parents who helped with the class trip Api, Glenys, Delicia, Malvin (and the next one coming up!!)

Just a heads up, Chloes mum Kelly has kindly offered to host a Christmas Party at her house for Room 10. (you are brave Kelly!)

YEY!

The children will be able to have a swim there and something to eat!
Chloes' granddad has offered to cater for us....spoilt!
Date to be confirmed, but with the production and junior picnic and end of year mass coming up, I was thinking of week 8.
I have checked with Mr MacMillian and he said it sounds great.
So a note will go home soon, we will need parent helpers for this, to walk to Kelly's house, supervise and walk back with the class.

This week I will do some final testing of reading and maths.
I know your children have made some great progress which is fantastic. We still need to keep up the reading and word lists till the end of term:-)
The writing also is looking great (and ERO remarked on their great work too for their time at school)
Library is Monday all books due back for stocktake.

Ross (Xavier's dad) has offered to do some art with us, which is fantastic as he is a remarkable art teacher at Western Heights High School:-)
Needed: Can you bring in some egg cartons, shoe boxes, and if you happen to have one we need a large box (tv size) would be useful.

Have a super week,

Bernie

The children were well behaved in mass and the concert too.

GRANDPARENTS DAY CELEBRATION AND MASS THIS FRIDAY!
BE GREAT TO SEE YOUR  GRANDPARENTS OR SIGNIFICANT RELATIVES THERE IF YOU CAN MAKE IT!

DETAILS TO FOLLOW RE MASS TIME. THERE IS A MORNING TEA IN THE HALL AND SOME CHILDREN WILL SHARE THEIR TALENTS IN THE HALL AT 11:00.

PTA tickets are due back Monday, if you have managed to sell them.
If you can't sell them just bring them back as is.

I have been very happy with the writing the class have done this week on "Jack and the Beanstalk".
They really became very involved with the process of writing and enjoyed their art creations too.
Check out our beanstalk in class!

This week we will look at the "The Three Little Pigs" and we will be doing some great constructions around this story.

We had a spectacular down pour on Thursday afternoon and the children rightly so became very distracted!!
We raced to watch the hail storm that lasted 10 minutes or so.
Here are some photos....

Library Monday, please bring back the library books.

No swimming this week.

I have pasted some new spelling lists in some of the children's books. Please go over these, by reading them each night.

Also if you could have your child practice writing their words from the first two lists.
This will help your child greatly at writing time to be more independent.

For Golden Time we had fun in the water. Enjoy these photos!

Week 4  Term 4

The term is flying by quickly. Thank you for the effort you are putting in to hearing your child read.
I will do some more reading testing this week. Please keep pushing the word lists and the books!

Swimming this week please send your child's swimming gear all week.
If at the time of our swim the weather turns 'yuk' I will cancel that swim for that day.

Welcome Daya to our class.
Daya is straight from India and is settling in well. The class have been very helpful at making him feel welcome.

I have noticed a lot of 'tell tales' going round. We have talked about this as a class and what to do in different situations when another child is being 'annoying'.
Please can you talk to your child about this as well and the techniques for avoiding conflict!
Like walking away, choosing to work with someone who is helpful and not distracting, or working on their own to get their work finished.
At this age they are learning to take some responsibility for their choices. The class know the routine for where to put finished work and what to move onto when they have finished their activity. There are a few children who are taking too long to complete work and move on.
We will address this more this week.

For those parents who helped at the working bee on Saturday..a HUGE thank you!

In maths we are looking at all the ways to make 10 and represent 10. Look out for our 10 representations that will be hanging up really soon.

Last week I attended a professional development session on maths at Westbrook school. It was most informative. It is great to see what other professionals are doing and swap ideas and practice methods with other schools. The guest speaker has a masters in teaching mathematics  and has travelled far and wide doing research on the subject.
I got the opportunity to talk to her afterwards as well which was great.

Have a great week,

Bernie
