Week 6    Term 3

PHOTOS ARE THIS MONDAY!!!!
Please be on time for the school day as I recall juniors will be first up for the photos.
Our class will most likely be first up.
Your child should be wearing their correct uniform (jersey if you have one).

MATHS EVENING WEDNESDAY!!!!!

Our junior maths evening is Wednesday.
This is designed to inform parents and caregivers of the different maths stages in numeracy.
All are welcome, and parents of room 10 are to come to room 16 for the presentation.
We require numbers ASAP if attending as we make up sufficient maths packs to take home.
If you have to bring your child/children please take them to the school library on arrival and they will be well looked after for that hour.
Thank you in advance.
Return your confirmation if attending ASAP!

Golden Time is making jelly and iceblocks!
We want to investigate the way food ingredients can change state.
If you would like to help Friday morning with this prep..please let me know.

Welcome Gabrielle! Here are some pictures of room 10 enjoying GT.

I will still be doing a little more testing this week.
It really does give a good indication of where your child is at and what we need to do for their next learning steps.

Homework..read all the little readers sent home, keep working on reading eggs, read the class poems and go over the sight words in the list given!!

Phew, even if you read each night and choose one other literacy or numeracy activity to do as well would be great, the more they practice the better they get.

I have attached some numeracy and literacy links to the blog page try and have a go at some of these for something different.

Health wise ...I am reminding children to wash their hands after using the toilet.
(they say they have then I ask them to show me their hands and they say "I forgot")

Have a great week everyone,

Bernie

Week 5  Term 3

This week we welcome three new students to room 10-Christian, Magdalena and Jamarie :-)
(Apologies Magdalena I will add your photo this week!!)

All are off to a great start and the rest of the class have been great at making them feel welcome.

All the children have a reading eggs login now so find some time for your child to get onto this site-they will love it! Details are in your child's homebook.

We have a busy week this week as I start testing with the children that started at the beginning of the term.

The children will still receive books each night and a poem of the week.
Thanks for your great effort at hearing your children read, it really will make a difference.

On Thursday we had an edible art competition. The food creations looked fantastic and the children enjoyed it. Thanks to Christian's nana and her friend Benita for coming in to help with this!
Ka Pai!

On Friday we celebrated the Assumption of Mary. This is when Mary was taken into Heaven body and soul.

Have  a great week and keep that reading and learning of new words going strong at home.

Week 4, Term 3

We celebrated Saint Mary Mackillop's feast day on Friday and I was proud of how well the class behaved during the mass. Well done kids!
We did take two trips to visit the church during the week. This helped the children to understand and practice some church protocols.
We took photos of some significant icons in the church. Show your child these photos and see if they can tell you what they are or what they mean.

You will notice that your child is registered with the online literacy programme-reading eggs.
Your child has a login and this and parent information on reading eggs, is pasted in the homebook.
This is a fantastic reading resource so please start using it!

This week we welcome three new children to room 10! We are sure they will fit right in and I have explained to the class that they will be important role models for our 'newbies'.

Last week I did some preliminary testing and this coming week I will be doing some testing also.

Please keep up the reading each night AND go over the words from list one read and then spell (pasted in the homebooks).

Week 3, Term 3

Thank you for making sure your children are reading each night. I will make a comment in the homebooks on your child's reading progress each fortnight. Please also include reading of the weekly poem and the word book.
We really want to keep the momentum going in reading.
The best way to improve reading is to read!
Try and make it a time when both adult and child are relaxed and have time to talk about the book.
Ask questions about the pictures, what may happen next, or ask some 'what if' questions.

The children enjoyed their Golden Time on Friday. There were some that missed some of the GT time.
So hopefully this week we will all get equal GT!
Thanks to Renee and Madeleine for coming to help us with our biscuit icing!
See photos below.

Congratulations Jet and Madeleine on your Baptism this weekend!
This is quite apt as we have begun our study on the sacraments.

God Bless.

On Wednesday evening our Whanau Roopu has organised a shared dinner for all of our cultural groups in the school. The dinner is in our hall at 5.30pm and you are all welcome to attend.

This week...

We celebrate Mary Mackillop feast day on Friday.
Mary Mackillop has a very special connection to our school. This day starts with a 9:00 am mass-all welcome.
We will be having a shared lunch at 12:30 with a middle school class. So please send a plate for this.
The rest of the day is school wide based activities around this important Saint.

Homework: daily readers, poems, maths activity

Please make sure your children are at school by 8:30 ready to start at 8:45. The class are expected to be sitting on the mat ready by 8:45, so remind them before this to go to the toilet beforehand, thanks.
