Week 4  Term 4

The term is flying by quickly. Thank you for the effort you are putting in to hearing your child read.
I will do some more reading testing this week. Please keep pushing the word lists and the books!

Swimming this week please send your child's swimming gear all week.
If at the time of our swim the weather turns 'yuk' I will cancel that swim for that day.

Welcome Daya to our class.
Daya is straight from India and is settling in well. The class have been very helpful at making him feel welcome.

I have noticed a lot of 'tell tales' going round. We have talked about this as a class and what to do in different situations when another child is being 'annoying'.
Please can you talk to your child about this as well and the techniques for avoiding conflict!
Like walking away, choosing to work with someone who is helpful and not distracting, or working on their own to get their work finished.
At this age they are learning to take some responsibility for their choices. The class know the routine for where to put finished work and what to move onto when they have finished their activity. There are a few children who are taking too long to complete work and move on.
We will address this more this week.

For those parents who helped at the working bee on Saturday..a HUGE thank you!

In maths we are looking at all the ways to make 10 and represent 10. Look out for our 10 representations that will be hanging up really soon.

Last week I attended a professional development session on maths at Westbrook school. It was most informative. It is great to see what other professionals are doing and swap ideas and practice methods with other schools. The guest speaker has a masters in teaching mathematics  and has travelled far and wide doing research on the subject.
I got the opportunity to talk to her afterwards as well which was great.

Have a great week,

Bernie

Week 3 Term 4

Wow! Your children performed fantastically in front of a large audience on Friday.
I am sure you were very proud...I was!

Well done Room 10.

This Saturday we have a school working bee.  The working bee starts at 8am and will conclude at 1.00pm with a tasty lunch and other refreshments.

No swimming this week. I have been impressed with the number of children that are bringing their togs and how many of the children show confidence in the pool.

We have been talking about being good self managers and taking responsibility for our clothes, books, lunch boxes etc. The class are all working on using their skills of independence and co-operation to be good self managers. Room 10 are learning where to be and what to be doing at literacy and numeracy time and what to do when they have completed all their work.
Here are some photos of them doing these things.

We are also looking at probability in our  maths strand. The class are learning about what is likely to happen, possibly happen and no chance of happening as regards our characters in fairy tales.

Please keep up the learning and practice of sight words and reading. There are some children who are also working on their letter recognition. They need to know all their letter sounds to grasp word knowledge and to be able to use skills of working out tricky words.

Rosary on Thursday morning 10:00 if you wish to join us.

Golden time,  wheels day was voted in last week for this week!

Have a great Monday with your families!

Bernie :-)

WEEK 2   TERM 4

This Friday we are hosting the school assembly.
ALL WELCOME!     This is at 2:00 Friday in the school hall.

Your child needs to wear black clothes if possible (dress, shorts, leggins) whatever you are able to find/borrow!
The class also needs to recite the snail poems in their homebooks, so please help them with these.
We will be working on them in class also.

On Thursday we hosted the school rosary. Our fantastic little actors did a great job of highlighting the baptism of Jesus.
I was very proud of them.
Well done Christian and Jet!

Phew that was a big crowd to act in front of.
Well done boys, Ka Pai!

On Friday we made 'cookie monster muffins' with Mrs MaCashin.....YUMMY!
What a treat. They went down quickly! Thanks Shanelle for your help.

A BIG thanks too to our parent helpers Maria and Renee who helped out on Friday in the class.
It is much appreciated.

I want to show my mum...I am taking mine home.

Check this one out Mrs Hall!

Too good to eat!

This week we start swimming.
We swim at 12-12:30 weather permitting.
At this age we are working on our water safety and water confidence.
We will have some fun alongside some essential water skills this term.
Please send your child's swimming gear each day this week.

This week in writing we are writing recounts about what we have done in the holidays and over the weekend.

Make sure you check out some great writing on our literacy board.

In RE we are learning about Mary and to pray the rosary. The children are really enjoying this strand.

KEEP UP THE READING AT HOME AND THE PRACTICE OF THE WORD LISTS.
It is always great to see  children  make progress in reading.
The children are now monitoring their own progress with learning their words by a tick for each word learnt.
How many ticks by week 6?
Some great little readers went to visit Mr Macmillan last week to show him their great reading. He was impressed!

On Thursday Ronald MacDonald came to talk to the children about road safety. He was  very good and the children really enjoyed his visit.

Library is Monday, so please send back your child's library book/s.

Have a great week,

Bernie

TERM 4     WEEK 1

I hope you are having a great break and your child has managed some time to do reading!

This term we have swimming as our physical education focus. Your child will need to bring their togs everyday in the even weeks of the school term. We start week 2.
Our swimming lessons really focus on water confidence and water safety at this age.

For the first few weeks we will be reciting some prayers used in the rosary.
We will learn these at prayer time.
The junior team will host rosary week 1 Thursday at 8:45 in the school hall, all welcome.

For reading this term it is essential that the children who have been here all last term know the  sight words on their list and are reading daily.
Reading is our main focus this term and our follow up activities will always reinforce what the different reading groups learning goals are.

Remember your holiday reading logs and to bring them back to school week 1!

Library is still Mondays.

For writing we will continue to work on our independence and finding words off the word cards but also attempting unfamiliar words.

In Mathematics we have 2 groups. One is working on learning to read, say and recognise numbers to 10. Also to know their patterns of 5. To count back from 10 and know what numbers come before and after.
One group is working on counting to 20 and on, count backwards from 20, make sets of 10 and beginning to add and subtract to make a sum of 10.

In week 2 we have our class assembly all welcome:-)
This is at 2:05 on Friday.
Your child will be showing some great art work and performing a song for the school!
Please come along and support us!

Enjoy the last few days of the holidays and I will see you and your beautiful children soon.

Here are some photos of our church visit. We are learning how to bless ourselves when entering church and listening to God when we are here.

God Bless,

Bernie Hall
